
John M. DiChesare
John M. "Sarge" DiChesare, age 69 of Akron, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007 following an extended illness.
John was born October 4, 1937 in Dry Town, Calif., to the late John and Clare (Tyree) DiChesare. He was extremely proud of his 30 years of military service, retiring as a highly decorated veteran of the United States Army. His service with the 101st and 173rd Airborne Divisions included tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star with V, Army Commendation with V, and participated in six major battle campaigns. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed playing cards with his friend's and going to the horse races.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn (Niehaus) DiChesare; daughters, Debbie (Buddy) Kirby of Inman, S.C., Vicki (Wally) Castle of Pawleys Island, S.C. and Melody (Mike) Lessick of Stow; grandchildren, J.R. (Melissa), Christopher (Lori), Leah, Jenifer, Karli, Michael and Danielle; great-grandchild, Sarah; sister-in-law, Marilyn Maynard and all of his North Hill buddies who were like family to him.
In keeping with his wishes, John's arrangements are entrusted to the Heritage Cremation Society. A service with full military honors will be scheduled in the spring. A notice will be posted following grandson Christopher's return from deployment in the Middle East with the United States Air Force.
