Anthony (Tony) J. Castle

Anthony (Tony) J. Castle, 92, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, after a wonderful life. Mr. Castle was born in Waukegan, Ill., one of a family of seven, and was a longtime Akron resident. He loved ballroom dancing and won the Marathon Dance competition on Aug. 2, 1932, at the East Akron Gardens. Tony served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. After the war, he ran a successful vending machine business, "Tony Castle Music," and started off with one jukebox in the Green Room at the Howe Hotel. Tony was past president and one of the founders of the Summit County Music Operator's Association. He believed "giving somebody a lift helps you learn about life." He carried out this motto by supporting United Way, Boy's Town of Italy, for which he was honored as Man of the Year, and other local organizations. Tony enjoyed swimming, traveling, golf ing, working in the yard, but most of all, socializing with family and many friends. His warm smile and zest for life were his trademarks. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Frances; son, Anthony James Jr. (Carla) of Richmond, Texas; two grandchildren; sister, Rose MacSems of Culver City, Calif.; brother, Frank (Liz) of Akron; many nieces and nephews and their families whom he dearly loved,  and a host of friends. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Cha pel (39 S. Miller Rd.) Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, with full military honors conducted by the Firestone V.F.W. Post 3383. The family suggests memorials to the Village at St. Edward or St. Anthony's Church.
